Police and Badging

Patrol Division

Marked squad cars are used to patrol Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport's 3,400 acres. The terminals are patrolled on foot, by electric cart, and with specially equipped bicycles.

Airport police officers are licensed by the Minnesota Peace Officers Standards and Training Board. Many hold bachelor's or graduate degrees.

The department must meet numerous federal security directives. Heightened security requirements include an increased uniformed law enforcement presence in the Air Operations Area, on the airport perimeter and in high risk areas. Random vehicle inspections can also occur.

Safe and Sober Campaign

The Airport Police Department has participated in a statewide campaign targeting impaired drivers and promoting the use of seatbelts. Along with more than 300 other law enforcement agencies, Airport Police work to reduce the number of traffic fatalities in Minnesota.
